The piece is constructed of wood.

It is painted with enamel in a style similar to the dazzle camouflage series of mine.

Bronze casting

So lately I've been building the equipment to outfit my foundry. I'll be using oil bonded sand (a formula called K-bond). The idea is to cast bronze pieces. It will take a while to get everything together.

This is a molding bench in progress.

A pair of lifting tongs to get the crucible out of the furnace.

A pouring shank to hold a #16 crucible, about 50 pounds of bronze.

This is a view of what will become the house and studio (Virgin Iron Works). My wife Lorri and I started this project several years ago. The house was designed by Norman D.Ward A.I.A. We both love his work and think he is one of the most exciting architects practicing today. The site is heavily wooded six acres.
